Xibalba - a Purbeck stone hand carved wall plaque inspired by the Mayan mythological Deity Xibalba, the Deity of Death or "The Place Of Fear"
Xibalba (Mayan pronunciation: [ʃiɓalˈɓa]), roughly translated as "place of fear", is the name of the underworld in K'iche' Maya mythology, ruled by the Maya death gods and their helpers. In 16th-century Verapaz, the entrance to Xibalba was traditionally held to be a cave in the vicinity of Cobán, Guatemala. According to some of the K'iche' Maya presently living in the vicinity, the area is still associated with death. Cave systems in nearby Belize have also been referred to as the entrance to Xibalba. In some Maya areas, the Milky Way is viewed as the road to Xibalba.
I've been making garden sculptures from found and/or reclaimed materials, upcycling and recycling, such as these old cinder blocks found in a field, disregarded, green and mouldy. They have made for good carving and fun garden abstracted owl-esque sculptures. Available by commission from £50. upwards according to size.
Gandr - 5 hand made sculptures from modeling foam, paper, tin foil, string, stone dust, tea, home made glue and reclaimed old skanky white paint and a bycycle saddle! All found objects used, eco friendly, 100% upcycled. I made five of these and all have sold and gone. At some point in 2016 when I have another workshop space, I will make more.
Dimensional Form. Exploration in stone.
Guardians. Details of four of five sculptures in 100% found materials, left in a very remote cut off hard to get to part of a forest to watch over the forest and its spirits. These sculptures were blessed and placed with ceremony. Are they still there I wonder?
LO-III-84-M. The sculptural pieces above are part of my ongoing (Ill come back to this project later) Moon Castle project, called LO-III-84-M. A multi media installation based on the conspiracy theories around man/E.T. made structures and moving objects on the moon, kept secret by NASA etc. Please note, I am not a conspiracy nut! I will pick this project back up as soon as I can. An ongoing project that will incorporate sculpture, illustration and light.
Outsider wall sculptures. I make all kinds of sculptures out of found and reclaimed building materials, often fly tipped by disrespectful morons. When I find fly tipped stuff, I'll take what I think I can use and make something, so my stuff is eco friendly too! Upcycle, recycle, outsider art, literaly from the outside for the outside.
Colour Photography I and II. Abstract water colour pieces inspired by my prefered style of abstract photography. Two of my cameras abstracted for these illustrations. More camera paintings will be added soon.
Herkunft - A stone carving, and stone/metal assemblage all created from found materials from Durdle Door beach, England. This sculpture was inspired by Christrian symbology, Darwin's theory of evolution and DNA. The struggle between creationism and Darwinism.
Another upcycled/recycle piece, eco freindly and made with insects in mind. The back of the sculpture is riddled with drilled holes for spiders and other little critters to make their homes in.
Lots more to be added when I find time!
